Audit rules

WWW and Non-WWW Both Serve the Page

The other host variant (www or non-www) answers 200 without redirecting, so the site is served on two hosts. In a QuikSEO audit, a failure of this rule has warning severity and counts against the score. Below are the exact condition, its exceptions and the sources behind it, followed by the other rules of the same group.

01 — Definition

How This Rule Is Checked

The rule is a pure function of the fetched page: no extra requests, no account settings. The same input always gives the same result.

Rule Severity and Score

Rule id
http.host_variant_duplicate
Group
HTTP
Severity of a failure
Warning
Counts in the score
Yes, whenever it applies to the page
Required for a score
No

Condition and Exceptions

Condition
Probe host_variant (www ↔ non-www): status 2xx without redirect → fail (duplicate host)
Exceptions
Twin host does not resolve (absent) or answers an error status → pass; the request failed (timeout, transport error, busy host gate) → not_checked; no probe → not_checked

Sources and Project Decision

Project decision
Severity warning is a project decision [D]. A twin host that does not resolve passes; a twin that could not be fetched is not_checked.
